We had created our own story we wanted to tell all the kids out there. For us visiting schools is a great way to meet children and collect as many unused plastic toys as possible. Thus we started our ecoBirdy school programme back in autumn.
At our school visits we bring the ecoBirdy book “A Journey to new life” in a huge format with us to vividly illustrate Scooter and his friends’ journey. Mr Professor from our story is with us. He tells the pupils about Scooter and explains how to join the ecoBirdy project. The youngsters listen carefully to our story and seem very touched by it. All kids then have the chance to throw a plastic toy into our collection container. We want them to feel part of ecoBirdy, showing how to contribute to our project with their own actions.
There was so much proudness in their eyes, when we put our ecoBirdy “I am a recycler” sticker on their chests afterwards. It filled us with satisfaction and joy to see that. After the first visits we knew it was the right way to give kids an understanding of this serious topic and inspire them to participate at our project. The feedback from teachers was very positive. Although we stay for one single lesson, our story leaves behind a deep impression. The pupils continue to ask about the topic and seem honestly thoughtful about it.
We want to take this opportunity to thank everybody who supported our project and made the ecoBirdy school programme possible. It means a lot to us to be able to tell young people about our story and inspire them to contribute to a more sustainable future.
