ecoBirdy’s exceptional designs are featured in the permanent collection of the Young V&A Museum in London (a branch of the Victoria & Albert Museum), which reopened on July 1st, 2023.
The Design gallery hosts a display section entirely dedicated to ecoBirdy’s case study: it includes the award-winning Charlie Chair, Luisa Table, Rhino Lamp and Kiwi Container; alongside the definitive range, for the first time, initial sketches and prototypes are revealed. The exhibition unravels the magic behind each furniture piece, showcasing the transformation from ideas on paper to tangible products that resonate with children worldwide.
Curated for 0-14 years old, the exhibition shows the design process and invites youngsters to embark on an inspiring journey through the aesthetic, the functionality, the manufacturing process, and the materiality of the products – highlighting the prestige and recognition of the distinctive premise of ecoBirdy: recycling plastic toys into children’s furniture.
“After more than a year of working with children to co-design the museum and understand what they wanted to see and do, we found that issues related to climate change and sustainability were some of the most urgent issues they wanted to explore. ecoBirdy is a great fit for this, and the fact that the products are made from recycled toys provides an extra layer of interest and engagement for children. Through the display, we want to encourage children to look more closely at the objects they use and question what they are made from, and brands such as ecoBirdy show how design can help us transform the materiality of everyday things.” – Alex Newson, Chief Curator at Young V&A
ecoBirdy’s inclusion at Young V&A Museum speaks volumes about the brand’s timeless appeal, innovation, and lasting impact our furniture has had on generations of children and families.
