Sustainability at ecoBirdy
At ecoBirdy, our mission is to create a positive impact through thoughtful design. By giving discarded materials a new purpose, we design furniture that is functional, beautiful and contributes to a better world.
Our innovative approach combines aesthetics with environmental and social responsibility. The name ecoBirdy reflects our core values:
-
eco stands for ecological. We care for our environment. We think it is very important to respect our mother earth’s precious resources without creating unnecessary waste.
-
Birdy stands for a healthy future of our nature, where birds will be able to fly freely and live well.
Thoughtful Design
At the beginning of our journey with ecoBirdy, we made the commitment to inspire the next generation and to leave them a better planet than the one we are living in, starting by reducing the sea of plastic waste.
In ecoBirdy’s design guideline, we have specified that inclusive design should be implicitly respected, honouring the diversities in: gender, race, age, abilities, social status, cultural background. By empathizing with users’ everyday challenges, we create products that are both human-centred and impactful.

Recycled Materials
ecoBirdy always works with recycled and upcycled materials to craft its unique and high-quality pieces.
Most ecoBirdy furniture pieces are made of ecothylene®. This is our own recycling process to transform plastic household waste into beautiful, durable furniture. Due to accurate sorting and using state-of-the-art technology, we are able to transform post-consumer plastic waste like toys and plastic containers into high-grade raw material.
The tabletop of Frost Table is made from internal parts of discarded refrigerators, where the transparent drawers and the white interior are matched to create a unique nuance. The surface comes with an icy palette which resembles the initial cooling purpose of its source.
Coral Blanket is made with recycled cotton from post-industrial and post-consumer waste.
The Reborn Collection ecoBirdy designed for Italian design brand SLIDE is made utilizing industrial waste generated during production and post-consumer materials, following a cradle-to-cradle approach.
In addition to our own design and production, we offer professionals custom B2B circular solutions to transform their commercial waste, industrial scraps, post-consumer or post-production waste into marketable, design-forward products.

Social Responsibility
All ecoBirdy products are designed in Belgium and made in Belgium or Italy.
We source all materials from across Europe. From plastic to machinery, screws, prints, cardboard boxes, tapes, etc. The collected plastic goes through a recycling process to produce ecothylene®, which is then processed in Italy or Belgium to make ecoBirdy’s products. We believe supporting the local economy is part of enterprises’ social responsibility. It relates directly to health care and education, which are important components contributing to the wealth of young generations.
We have been offering job opportunities to minorities whenever it’s possible. By collaborating with a local sheltered workshop, ecoBirdy strives to generate socially added value in its production. Working with a sheltered workshop, opens up opportunities for people who have more needs or have difficulties to be integrated in society. The trajectory and chance to grow their competencies and talents can help them re-enter the workforce.

Circular Product Lifecycle
ecoBirdy’s products are designed to be timeless and high-quality. Each product goes through rigorous safety and durability testing.
The Charlie Chair is designed to be used as a “chair for children”. It has been tested by SGS for durability, and it will not break when used for what it was designed for. You can find more detailed information on the product care here.
We strongly encourage you to give your kid’s furniture a new purpose when it is no longer suitable for its initial use. If your child has outgrown our kids’ furniture, please try to use it as a side table, or as a night stand, for example. Please donate it or sell it locally if you don’t have a place for it in your home anymore. Our products are 100% recyclable, any professional recycler who recycles polyethylene can recycle them.
We are researching and experimenting to find solutions to repair hard plastics in the future.

Conscious Packaging & Energy
To limit the impact of merchandise, we follow the rule of 3Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle. ecoBirdy uses a minimal amount of packaging material. Our e-commerce orders are shipped directly in the product boxes. In case multiple products are ordered, they are packed in a special group packaging, always keeping the protection of the products inside in mind.
The consumption of energy and water are measured, making us aware of our use of nature’s resources and limit the usage. The electricity is purchased from a local supplier of solar and wind energy. We prioritise partnerships with companies that do the same.
